What an MBOX file is
If someone gave you an .mbox file and you cannot open it, you are not alone. These files often come from Gmail, Thunderbird, or other email systems. They are useful for storage, but they are not easy to read or share in a legal situation.
What should stay intact
- Email headers: These can show routing details and exact times.
- Attachments: Emails and their attachments should stay connected.
- Searchability: Large sets of emails are easier to review when the final files can be searched.
Generic online converters can create privacy problems and may not preserve the details you need. That is a bad risk when the emails matter.
Technical help without legal advice
I help people convert email archives into organized PDF files that are easier to review and share with legal counsel. This is technical document preparation only. I do not provide legal advice, and I do not guarantee court admissibility.
If you have discovery files you cannot open, contact me. I can help you understand what you have and how to make it usable.
